Campground Reopening After the Storm

Selkirk Park FAQ related to the June 8, 2026 extreme weather event:

Will I be compensated for the days I missed at my campsite?

Seasonal Campers:

Refunds will not be given to seasonal campers for the dates lost due to the storm and park restoration as Seasonal campers pay for long-term access, and rates are heavily discounted as compared to the daily rates.
Daily Campers:

Campers who could not use their reserved, daily access campsite because the campground was closed, will be refunded for those days of the closure. Refunds will be automatically completed. If campers do not receive a refund within 2 weeks they should contact Campground staff.

Will I be compensated for my campsite if I chose to cancel my campsite for the remainder of the season?

Yes, the city will reimburse campers who choose to cancel the remaining portion of the season at a pro-rated rate. Rates will be provided to campers upon request. Please contact campground staff.

Is power and water available at my campsite?

If you have booked a campsite that includes services, they are available as usual. Grey water disposal is also available as usual.

Will campers be reimbursed for cold groceries?

Losses related to power outages are beyond the city’s control and should be submitted within your insurance claim.

What is the City’s role in assisting campers with making claims to home insurance or to MPI?

The city provided photos of each campsite to campers that outline the damage to property prior to any of the restoration work being done by contractors and city staff at the campground.

Any other information required by MPI or insurance companies can be requested and the City will do its best to provide what is required on a case-by-case basis. The City can not assist with claims or making claims on campers’ behalf – any claim for personal property damage is the responsibility of the property owner.

Campers with damage to their campers can make an online claim after hours through MPI’s online portal at: https://www.mpi.mb.ca/claims/.

Those campers who use their campers as their primary residence should contact their insurance company about any expenses related to hotels or other accommodations.

Booking confirmations can be provided by the city as requested.

If a camper is damaged beyond repair is there a way for campers to still camp?

Campers who have paid fees are still entitled to their site for the remainder of the season should they choose to camp in an alternate tent/camper. The city cannot provide alternate accommodation (i.e tents/campers).

What prevention measures have been taken to prevent further site damage of theft to unoccupied campers?

The city has had dedicated security on site 24/7 hours a day since the event.

What will the City be doing to support the clean up or removal of items after the event?

Campers should work with their insurance providers to understand what is eligible for insurance or MPI coverage.
MPI should advise what is eligible for towing/camper removal. Campers are responsible for towing or removal arrangements, however the City can provide a list of local towing companies.

In the event that debris is preventing a camper from removing their camper – they should contact the City and advise that debris removal is required and those actions will be prioritized by staff.

The city has provided a large bin for campers to dispose of any damaged items such as patio furniture. Location: Garage site near the Ag Society Grounds.

If campers need assistance hauling larger items they can contact the campground office and help will be provided on a case by case basis.

Campers are encouraged to document anything that they dispose of via photos for their insurance claims to MPI or insurance provider.

Boat Launch – will my day passes be refunded:

Boat launch day passes will be refunded automatically. If you have not received your refund in 2 weeks, please contact Campground staff.
Seasonal passes will not be refunded.

Picnic Shelters and Ag Building – will my rental fee be refunded?
